Dictionary Search Instruction
The Sanskrit words are displayed both in
Sanskrit 2003 Devanagari
font, and in English characters using ITRANS schema. If Sanskrit words are not
displayed properly, please install the font on your computer.
Words can be searched in 3 different modes:
- Sanskrit - English: With this the English meaning
of a Sanskrit word can be found. The input has to be in Devnagri script. To input
in Devnagri script -
- you need some Sanskrit authoring software like
Aksharamala
installed on your computer; or
- you can use our
Sanskrit Editor
page, to convert ITRANS text into Devnagri script.
- ITRANS - English: With this the English meaning
of a Sanskrit word can be found. The input has to be given in English characters
with ITRANS key schema. In absence of any Sanskrit authoring software, this option
can be used to find the meaning.
- English - Sanskrit: With this option the meaning
of an English word in Sanskrit can be found. Using Partial Match will result
in better matches.
Any of the 4 different search filters can be used for a flexible word search.
- Exact Match: The words exactly matching
the input word will be listed. If you know the exact word and it's spelling
then use this option to get accurate result.
- Partial Match: All words which contain the
input word will be listed. If you know only part of a word, then use this
option to get all matching words.
- Starts With: All words which start with the
input word will be listed. This is specifically useful if a list of all words
starting with specific alphabet or pattern is to be listed.
